Supremely beautiful plants have purple flowers and dark green foliage with purple veining. Pretty enough to grow in the flower bed and a good size for container growing too. Plants reach 75-90 cm. in height and bear numerous, thick walled, mildly hot peppers. Most of the heat is in the ribs and seeds; the flesh itself has a rich, fruity flavour. We love to place a bowl of just picked black peppers on the counter and watch them slowly turn a deep, dark red. Try them in salsa, chutney or in any dish where you want just a little heat. We use them a lot in recipes that call for jalapenos.
